Bruce Highway Again-Murder On The Road

Many people remember the tenacious dedication of scientific investigators tracking down a vehicle that had pushed a 4x4 off the road,which was also towing a caravan. All the people in the 4x4 were killed in the accident(murder) It took one to 1 and a half yrs via paint, to track down the murder vehicle and driver Lets say your driving on the Bruce highway, and an over taking lane appears. You keep to the left and sit on the speed limit Overtaking fast traffic use the overtaking lane(breaking the speed limit in the process), but could be regared as a safety valve The left lane runs out soon(a design fault?) You have to get back onto the road-which is currently the overtaking lane(design fault) Which then returns to ordinary road(design fault) The old rule was you could not get back on the road unless it was safe to do so The new rule is if you are in front of traffic in the overtaking lane, you can pull out in front of them safely, back onto the road.They have to give way The traffic mostly dont like to let you back onto the road in front of them Many drivers in the overtaking lane behind you , can see your running out of road And will let back onto the road in front of them with no trouble But the agressive truckies and 4x4 dont like the rule or procedure Lets say a truckie or 4x4 has been tailgating you for miles But cant overtake because there is no overtaking lane, or dual carriage way Up comes the overtaking lane Most of which for some reason are on the uphill-very few on the down hill(design) Lets say the truck pulling uphill in the overtaking lane cant overtake you Cause he's got a load on and cant get up speed, may even be pulling 2 trailers But he cruise along side you Your road runs out soon Your on the speed limit with a truck cruising alongside you He knows youre running out of road and wants you to drop back to let him get in front Else he will run you off the road ,legally Cause he's in the overtaking lane but dont overtake, just cruises alongside You either 1.accelerate out of trouble -fast-breaking the speed limit-but still alive 2.run out of road and die 3.slow up let the truck get in front All this happens in a few seconds, often by yourself, with no witnesses Fortunately many vehicles are automatic with a electronic kickdown to accelerate Fast But for many manual vehicles it is not so good Then you got the diesels which dont excelerate as fast as petrol, and loose speed underload How many times do you see a diesel 4x4 pull out to overtake But has not got the acceleration to do so,quickly Many drivers are unaware of this Till they find themselves in trouble facing oncoming traffic Wonder if gas converted vehicles accelerate as good as petrol vehicles Then another instance is vehicle overtaking on the left-many peoples favourite, Especially truckies, and impatient drivers There is single lane,no overtaking lane Up comes a left turn with a feed road off to left They pull out to the left as if to turn left But increase speed and move past you on the left and pull out in front of you Often with fingers in the air or horn blasting,breaking the speed limit at the same time, roar off down the road Some will even brake sharply, once in front A dual cariage each way will resolve some of these behaviours

Most of my news comments are on news from ABC Radio and other networks Today reports say The Gympie mayor and Ambulance official and Warren Truss went to see the fed govt about money for Cooroy to Gympie road upgrade Their representation was given a fair hearing, but no grant forth coming-yet So the cash for the Traveston dam road realignment has gone elsewhere I doubt if it will come back again Meanwhile while driving on the Bruce highway I have and others, got truckies tailgating all the time ,trying to force people over the speed limit(driving from behind). Approaching the school going into Gympie a truckie was tailgating, suddenly he slowed down to the speed limit Further down the road was a motorcycle speed cop with a radar gun After we passed the 60kmh limit he started tailgating again Then overtook somewhere 70 or 80 kmh in a 60 kmh limit But he got caught at the lights as i drew alongside and passed him when the lights changed This happens all day in Gympie-day and night Do the police turn a blind eye It is said police have a special relationship with truckies My answer to Gympie Bruce highway is more speed traps for truckies, for the time being. Going home we got truckies tailgating all the way Then a small 4x4,red sedan,hotted up mini, overtook in a 60klm phr sideon road, spinning stones into the windowscreen at the same time These drivers and passengers should realise they are in danger when they do this Because one day a driver will speed up alongside them till they run out of road, or meet oncoming traffic, preferably a large truck. And there will be no witness One 4x4 driver favourite trick is to overtake and spin stones into peoples windowscreen, then take off at high speed to prevent recongition. he was clocked at 140 klm phr on a 80 klm phr (now 60 klm phr) road With video cameras installed in the front of vehicles to get evidence and record accidents, the Bruce Highway can become safe once more, till road improvements are done Maybe the authorities will wake upto the fact oneday

According to news reports the Bruce highway claims another death, a 4x4 left the road and dead driver Reports do not give reason for death--follow up Like drunk driver/on drugs/fatigue/cause of fatigue/etc etc/or vehicle fault/2nd vehicle involvement Any vehicle can come up behind you and bump you off the road at night or day, when no one else is around as a witness One aspect i believe for cause of death is simply suicide The Bruce highway has gotten a reputation for death, and it is attracting suicide people Just like THE GAP in Sydney On the other hand the Curra and Glenwood And Gympie area abound in illegal drugs etc and unemployment in an economically depressed area

"The owners of 80 houses in the al-Bustan neighbourhood have received eviction notices saying that the structures will be destroyed because they are illegal," said Hatem Abdel Kader, an official responsible for Jerusalem affairs in the Palestinian government. He said 1,500 people were living in the threatened houses in the neighbourhood abutting the Old City. He said several of the houses served with demolition orders were built before 1967, when Israel captured east Jerusalem from Jordan during the Six Day War but numerous extensions have been built since. "The (Jerusalem) municipality used this as a pretext to issue the demolition orders despite appeals by the residents," he said. No comment was immediately available from the city authorities. Abdel Kader said: "For the first time, the municipality offered (those affected) relocation to the neighbourhood of Shufat" in the north of the city's Arab eastern sector. But he said the move still "amounts to a transfer of population from central Jerusalem". "The reason (for the notices) is not legal, but political," he said. "Israel wants to create a demographic disequilibrium in the city." A resident of the neighbourhood, Mahmud al-Abbas, said he received a demolition notice after failing to get a building permit from the Israeli authorities. "I built my house a year-and-a-half ago," he said. "I asked for a permit but never received authorisation." Israel, which considers the whole of Jerusalem its "eternal, undivided" capital, rarely grants building permits to Arab residents of east Jerusalem, which the Palestinians want to make the capital of their promised state. According to the Israeli B'Tselem human rights organisation, Israeli authorities have demolished about 350 houses in east Jerusalem since 2004, saying they were built without permits. Buzz Print WASHINGTON (AP) -- Banking giant UBS has agreed to pay $780 million and turn over once-secret Swiss banking records to settle allegations it conspired to defraud the U.S. government of taxes owed by thousands of American clients. As part of the deal struck in federal court in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., UBS has made the unprecedented step of agreeing to immediately turn over to the U.S. government account information for U.S. customers of the bank's cross-border business. In doing so, federal authorities have struck a big crack in Switzerland's vaunted bank secrecy laws. UBS will pay $780 million in fines, penalties, interest and restitution for conspiring to create sham accounts to hide the assets of U.S. clients from the U.S. government. The financial hit on UBS is more than double the penalty imposed by federal authorities just last month on a different international bank, Lloyds TSB Bank PLC, for helping its clients skirt U.S. sanctions against Sudan, Iran and Libya. "We accept full responsibility for these improper activities," Peter Kurer, chairman of Swiss-based UBS AG, said in a statement. He added that the bank was determined to abide by the terms of the deal with U.S. criminal and securities officials. "Client confidentiality, to which UBS remains committed, was never designed to protect fraudulent acts or the identity of those clients, who, with the active assistance of bank personnel, misused the confidentiality protections," he said Wednesday. About 17,000 American clients concealed their UBS accounts from the IRS, hiding total assets of roughly $20 billion, U.S. officials said. According to U.S. officials, when an acquisition in 2000 of a U.S. company brought UBS a host of new, American clients, the bank set about to evade new reporting requirements for those clients. To do so, UBS executives helped U.S. taxpayers open new accounts in the names of sham entities. Prosecutors contend that UBS executives used encrypted software and other counter-surveillance techniques to prevent anyone from detecting that they were actively marketing such Swiss bank secrecy -- and tax evasion -- to American taxpayers. The clients, in turn, filed false tax returns that omitted the income they earned in their Swiss accounts, according to the court papers. Federal officials said they had pulled aside a veil of secrecy that hid a corrupt international banking practice. "This was not a mere compliance oversight, but rather a knowing crime motivated by greed and disrespect for the law," said Alexander Acosta, U.S. attorney for southern Florida. Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Doug Shulman warned U.S. taxpayers hiding money overseas that it was time to come clean with Uncle Sam. "People who have hidden unreported income offshore need to get right with their government. They should come forward and take advantage of our voluntary disclosure process," Shulman said. Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., has estimated that abusive tax shelters and hidden offshore accounts cost the U.S. government nearly $100 billion a year in lost tax revenue. Prosecutors are still hunting for UBS executive Raoul Weil, who was indicted in November 2008 on charges he conspired to defraud the government when he was managing the bank's cross-border business. After the UBS settlement was announced Wednesday, Weil's lawyer Aaron Marcu said the charges should have been dropped against his client as part of the deal. "Mr. Weil is an innocent victim of a political dispute between the United States and Switzerland over Swiss bank secrecy," Marcu said. In June 2008 former UBS banker Bradley Birkenfeld pleaded guilty to a similar charge. If UBS fails to turn over the clients' information, or stops cooperating with authorities, federal prosecutors could refile charges against the bank. England And France Still Love Each Other-Too Much

Ever since William The Conquorer came to England across the channel around 1066, England and France have had a very healthy rivalry in most things. According to radio news today, a English and French nuclear submarine got together somewhere under the sea and lets say,had a (collision)undersea meeting. The result was dents and scratches to both(honour)submarines, equally, apparently. No nuclear damage etc, we are told to believe Much as he tried , the English navy spokes person could not explain how the engagement happened.Even as he spoke, the words were hollow and unbelieving, like the tone of his voice. Some of my ideas that may assist in house design and fire prevention in Victoria Dont be shy-send in your ideas- you never know-it might be of value to someone 1.cleared cultivated burnt firebreak around each property 2. same around the perimeter of a town or group of houses 3. each house have a water tank/water pump/electric generator for water pump/fire hose/buckets maybe goverments can subsidise costs to householder is like a boat going to sea with compulsory safety gear 4 the eaves of all houses to be boxed in. so no sparks/flames/embers can get into roof via eaves- no updraft 5.the outer shell of the house be made fire proof as possible-like a. one roof pitched roof- not multi pitch roof b doors and windows that can be sealed with roller doors/covers c,any hole like air vents/sewage airvents/ be able to be sealed 6, houses stumped to 8ft to allow base to be bricked in with fire resistant breeze blocks or bricks etc to provide refuge from heat. maybe a similar roof to stop roof falling on sheltering persons 7. lazy councils be fined and sued for damages 8. each person have a fire kit long trousers long sleeved shirt boots hat gloves glasses/gogles woollen fire blanket 9. mobile phone/battery radio for news 10 long handled rake/shovel/wet sack there must be others with ideas- send them in-someone may take notice

And are in jail, awaiting punishment My view is that they should be applauded for refusing to murder men, women, children, in Palestine Why wont the Israelie Govt murder the people themselves, instead of giving orders for others to do so. They are just as guilty if they give the orders. They are just like the Jewish committees in occupied countries in the last war, who sent fellow Jews to the Nazi concentration camps, knowingly.

On conscience grounds the soldiers refused orders to head to the Gaza Strip, they said Prefering a 14 day prison stint and rounding criticism from fellow soldiers and society at large, at least ten are awaiting trial for violation of orders. One said he simply could not go through with the deployment. No'em Levina, a first lieutenant in Israel,s army,refused to serve in Gaza, saying "We killed 900 Palestinians in 17 days, including hundreds of children." "If violence must be used , it should be used minimaly and that is not is what is happenning" he added,"Killing innocent civilians cannot be justified.Nothing justifies this kind of killing.It is devilish" It is Israel's arrogance based on logic; It is saying "if we hit more , everything will be okay" he said. "But the hatred and anger we are planting in Gaza will rebound on us" end quote My comment is that there is guilt in the Israeli army whoever gives the orders is a war criminal,gutless and faceless.

Victoria Bush Fires-Negligent Councils-Fire Breaks

Many people in the Victoria area are sending their photo's and videos of fire scenes to NineMSN online(computer) News (Have a look) Some of the photo's could be used as photographic evidense of fire damage and ground conditions , and negligence by local goverment responsable for firebreaks Several photo's I saw showed no evidence of fire breaks around burnt properties The fires had come straight out of the bush or adjacent farmland, straight into the residential areas, and houses One house had what appears to be a wood /brush/fence around it, and vegetation right upto the wooden fence, from adjacent farm/bush land A firebreak should have been on the outside of the wooden fence, like 1.a cut (5mm height)and cleared area of 8 to 10 feet wide 2.a rotovated/disc ploughed area of 8 to 10 feet wide 3.a burnt cleared area of 8 to 10 feet wide Many councils have differant regulations for firebreaks in differant states and conditions Aerial photo's also show little evidence of any firebreaks in some areas One photo showed residents in thongs and shorts and no shirt, fighting fires that had come upto a perimeter road (where is protective clothing) The road had trees and vegetation right upto the roadside edge, with houses on the otherside of the road. Trees and vegetation could have been cleared back from the road a few feet at least When these photo's are studied as evidence, some interesting facts will emerge as to how things can be proved. One wonders if the old fashioned thick wool blanket was used for fire protection as well by residents, would have lowered the death rate.

I dont have all the information for an evaluation of who is to blame But here is my evaluation from information available to public Weather weather forcasts and their interpretation and application are issued daily hourly and are usualy accurate--are these at fault Who gets the weather reports The fire authorities and police and others Who is best suited to interpretet and apply weather reports applied to fire fighting One would say the fire fighting authorities Who are best suited to fight fires Fire fighters Who should be in control of fire affected areas and direct and control the areas -fire fighters Police are not fire fighters or best weather interpreters etc-should be under the control and direction of fire fighters Police give residents option to leave or stay--wrong- decision is firefighters Police say"they are adults-we treat them like adults-give them the choice" No-police should have no say or interfere with a fire operation-fire fighters should be in control and direct everyone, including police Result 174 dead so far One can assume a Police balls up and incomprehension of the situation The Victorian police minister/commissioner of police/Nixon/ should resign or be sacked Even call a state election on the issue Fancy being a firefighter and you got other people interfering or affecting operations Like two people steering a car in differant directions then there is fire fighting equipment-- there was nothing adequate enough to fight the situation--state govt responability -fed govt responsability where was the Fed Govt assistance where was state govt request for help 174 dead- something is wrong somewhere- everyone can see 14th feb addition one can add to the list of who is responsable and should resign or be sacked-- The premier of Victoria Why are police preventing people 1.taking photo's of their burnt houses etc? even from inside a bus!preventing people 2.inspecting their burnt out homes Is it because the police are trying to prevent the media and public getting hold of information? and why! 2.

The blame game starts with a reported Royal Commission into Victoria bush fires. Whatever the outcome The happenning and experience can happen again Lets hope the outcome would be differant Have any changes been made Can any changes be made To prevent a similar result What is needed Will it be carried out Will it be effective

Climate Change Blamed-By Some

Climate change is blamed by some for the present climate/weather extremes One thing is for sure There has to be a re-evaluation of current procedures for emergencies-such as floods-bush fires -train crashes /airplane crashes etc And the capacity /finance/materials/labour/taxes /administration to cope Present capacity seems to be -like hospitals-barely coping The present recession and possible depression is not going to help

Fire Fighting Incompetance-Unneccessary Risk

Across the road are vacant blocks with uncut grass and no fire break Behind these vacant blocks are is open dairy/beef grassland, with plenty of vegetation Our properties are rated rural residential The dairy/beef land probably rural, unless developers have got it Imagine a lightening strike /fire/on the farm land The fire lights the adjoining vacant blocks The fire jumps the narrow road to vacant blocks next to me Where recent cut dry grass lays waiting to burn and no clear fire break Or just as bad ,children playing with matches We actualy had a lightening strike next door that killed a tree, that still stands dead. Australian Fires And Australian Federal /Commonwealth Citizenship

The question again arises of citizen rights and entitlements Are Australians commonwealth citizens or state citizens or both If a state cant protect citizens, can the citizens appeal to the federal/commonwealth govt for protection?-Direct The situation appears at the moment Local govt State goverment State govenor Commonwealth/Federal Govt Dept Why has all these stages of goverment to be gone through to protect a citizen from, for example, the current bush fires Especilly when a state goverment cant protect federal/commonwealth citizens Once again there is need shown for one inline structure of command and citizen rights etc Another possibility is can a citizen or their insurance company , sue a state or federal govt, for the lack of protection or enforcement of rights, or right to life?

Fire Breaks-As I Write

Two days ago a neighbours property had its grass cut after over 14 months of dead growth waiting to burn Apparently councils are being activated to check properties I wonder why/ Apparentlyw the contractor is back with the same tractor and grass cutter Doing bits that were not done One bit being done is around a dam site that has sloping banks The driver is reversing the tracor up and down the banks cutting the grass Poor PTO shaft and gear Poor machine, went clatter clatter bang bang, as the grass cutter rotated And is damaged, but continues to be used, clatter clatter, bang bang, business expense tax deduction, instead of operational neglect Gone are the days when contractors got off their backsides and did awkward bits by hand By bush cutter etc or hand machinery Gone are the days when fire breaks were fire breaks Cleared of burnable material by machine or hand

Australia Burns Still-Fed Govt Acts Too Late

According to radio newss today The Federal govt has put the military on standby After 108 deaths pluss in Victoria Better late than never Still no appeal for international aid Wonder what it takes The civilian authorities obviously underestimated the fires and weather conditions Doesent matter really Cause been proved they had not the gear to fight the fire Where people tried to escape in cars Helicopters that would have been on standby could have rescued them Like the helicopter gunship rescue pilots in Vietnam Rescuing comrades under fire So the experience and equipment is there But not used Maybe a national programme to build helicopters will result Where every town or fire district can have one on standby Even if it stays in its hanger all year till needed Or are people just expendable Lets face it TV radio stations have helicopters to report news, on standby all the time Maybe the FED/State/Local Govt/ can copy them Leadership must come from somewhere

World Society Protect Animals Appeal

On a recent visit to Romania, I was shocked to face the cruel reality of bears held in captivity. I'd like to share with you my experience with Ursula, one of the bears I met there. Ursula is an Asiatic Black Bear and has lived day and night for 26 years in a dirty, rusty cage just a few metres square. Distressed, malnourished and unable to express any natural behaviour, this cruel confinement has resulted in real signs of mental torment for this majestic animal. She paced round and round in circles in her tiny cage at the private zoo, with no protection from the freezing snow or the burning sun. The floor of her cage was completely bare apart from a small pool of filthy, stagnant water. I couldn't believe it when I was told this was all Ursula had to drink. Small amounts of food from the zoo and the paltry scraps thrown by tourists were all she had to eat. It was nowhere near enough to nourish her. Seeing Ursula in these appalling conditions was heartbreaking. Even worse was knowing that she is just one of many bears suffering in barren zoos throughout Romania without proper food, shelter or veterinary care. Others are imprisoned illegally in tiny cages on the roadside, behind restaurants or at ski resorts, on display as tourist attractions. With your help we can rescue bears like Ursula from a life of misery in these terrible captive conditions. Rescued from her cruel imprisonment, Ursula is now enjoying a new life of peace and freedom in the Romanian bear sanctuary, built over the past few years thanks to the generosity of WSPA supporters, and in partnership with our Romanian member society 'Millions of Friends'. But there are many bears still living in appalling conditions like those endured by Ursula at the zoo. They are also in desperate need of help.
