Coal Seam Gas Publicity In Qld(referance to ABC Radio Country Hour)

Coal seam gas is getting plenty of publicity of late in Qld--not so much in SA-where an above ground process is in contemplation

News seem to be about the pollution of ground water contamination with chemicals naturally associated with coal seam gas in the ground

Or about chemicals introduced into the ground water to mine the gas

or about chemicals left after the gas is sepperated from water in or above ground

its said there are large amount of potable water in the gas which has to be seperated

so coal seam gas can produce valuable water as a by product

some coal seam gas companies have several hydrologist monitoring ground water complying with state govt legislation and have no problems

everyone knows arsenic is a naturally occuring chemical in ground water

and is used in preserving beer-drunk by numerous people everyday

but in large quantities can kill-especially in deep water wells in India-used by people-as they have nothing else to drink

the state govt seems caught un-prepared-listen to the appropiate minister talk on radio-seems to have little knowledge or info on the situation

so much so that he said that coal seam gas might be banned in qld

so much so that several inspection enforcement officers have been sent to Roma and Dalby to monitor water there

Naturaly landowners dont want poisoned ground water-and may value rainwater more now

then you got the environmentalist jumping on the band wagon too

what a beat up or merry go round

its all good free publicity
